MSC Origins part XIII: From La Suerte to El Coco

In 2002, MSC main, which was then occupying the 4th floor of the La Suerte building was again outgrown by  its growing number of students.  Even with the old Agrix Supermarket or MSC annex, being used at the same time, an even bigger space was essential.

Fortunately at that time a four storey-building beside MSC Annex was nearing completion and the owner was looking for lessees.  The building which was later named El Coco Building was perfect for MSC!

The whole of the first floor was occupied by MSC Data Exchange (and Service Center), MSC’s sister company dubbed as a one-stop computer shop.  MSC Data Exchange was previously renting a space along Paseo de Escudero, but it fit just right in its new location.

The Mezzanine of El Coco was where the computer laboratory was transferred.  The laboratory was big enough for 40 students, or one complete section.

The second and third floors both had two average-sized classrooms each.  The fourth floor and the penthouse were used for Caregiving classes, which were first offered by MSC in mid 2002.

The move from La Suerte to El Coco consolidated MSC’s network into one location along A. Fule St. in two buildings beside each other.  The schools were there:

  • MSC High School
  • MSC Computer Training Center, and
  • the newly formed MSC Caregiving School;

The affiliate companies were there too:

  • MSC Data Exchange
  • MSC Service Center
  • MSC Communications Technology (or MSC Net) –  MSC’s Internet Service Provider

Story from the Alumni: Hazel Flores-Maghirang

At that time na-sweldo na kami ng P1,500 per month and malaking help na un sa akin dahil extra income. Nag e-enjoy ka na with the kids kumikita ka pa.

At dahil napamahal na ata ako sa MSC, nag enroll pa din ako ng trial course nila na parang 3rd year na namin. Study Now, Pay Later.

Congrats sa 25th year and continue to educate people and develop their abilities!

MSC Origins Part VIII: Transfer to La Suerte building

In June, 1995, MSC made another business decision and it packed all its belongings for the third time and left the Alvero compound along M. Paulino St., its home for four years.

MSC transferred to the La Suerte building located along the bustling Rizal Avenue.   Situated on the fourth floor, the main site of MSC (called MSC Main, for obvious reasons) seemed unreachable:

  • It was located in the space once occupied by the Regional Office of SSS, a piece of real estate that has set precedent for the upsurge of real estate prices in San Pablo. Look up and MSC  retained the balcony and the visually quiant flagpole.
  • The building does not have an elevator. This was almost a show stopper.  Use the stairs four floors up once and to test your aerobic fitness. But this was not a deterrent for the lady students and teachers who used the stairs in their two-inch heels, nor for the numerous inquirers who go up just to well, inquire.

MSC main housed the school administration office along with its records, files and paperwork. Students frequently came up to the counter to ask for the schedules, request for forms, look for teachers, or complain about their clearances, or their inability to get them. Main was the heart of MSC.

There were three classrooms in the Main, and The Laboratory.  The Lab was where the students did their case studies “hands-on” the computers. Certainly, the laboratory room here was bigger than the Alvero venue. It was common knowledge that the laboratory distinguished MSC from other computer schools.  Here students enjoyed long hours enjoying computer work alongside an army of competent laboratory assistants. There was ample room for students to do their respective work in peace  without violating each other’s personal space.

Lack of references was never a problem.  MSC’s two libraries were both located at the Main, where student will found lots of computer books, reference books and magazines. There was a photocopy machine too, if you needed to copy information. Often photocopies were  more affordable than new books.

Four floors up, the view was fantastic because it was located in the part of the city that was as metropolitan as San Pablo can get.

Testimonials from College, Vocational, Technical Alumni

Where do our college, technical and vocational school graduates go? To success in various fields!

MSC provided me the knowledge that served as a tool to keep me moving forward in my career. I learned techniques on how to face challenging situations. MSC prepared me for this. No matter how much you know today, you’ll have to know more tomorrow.

I prayed to God and submitted my dreams to guide me and show me the right way to walk through. I was surprised when I received a letter from MSC regarding my 100% scholarship for a short course in Computer Operation.

On 1997, I finished my 2-year Computer Technology Course, which was full of training and hands-on experiences.

Ang hirap mag-apply ng trabaho. Buti na lang nandyan ang MSC para pansamantalang kanlungan at lalo ka pang bibigyan ng mga actual training. MSC gave me priceless skills and abilities which I treasure up to now. Ito ang nagamit ko sa aking kasalukuyan trabaho upang mapa-bilib ang mga boss ko.

Currently I am a Software Developer at Teligent Systems, Inc. in Makati City working on projects that involve mobile technology and banking solutions.

I feel that the education I received at VYP-MSC was carefully planned for me and provided me with comprehensive knowledge and experience in Office Management and Computer Technology. I have learned to handle multiple tasks at the same time without someone pushing for it. This experience helped me in my job a lot where I have to manage multiple projects and prioritize various tasks. Its caring faculty and staff who takes the time to get to know students on a personal basis is second to none, and it was very easy to build friendships with the receptive community of students as well.
